Studio Ceramic Project / Functional Pottery
The Stoneware Pitcher Project focused on designing and crafting a functional ceramic pitcher using stoneware clay — known for its strength, durability, and natural aesthetic. The goal was to blend practical utility with refined craftsmanship, resulting in a piece suitable for everyday use and artistic display.

handcrafted ceramic piece created using mid-fire stoneware clay, designed to balance both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Thrown on the potter’s wheel and finished with a hand-pulled handle and sculpted spout, the pitcher is both durable and practical for everyday use. Glazed with a food-safe, semi-matte finish and fired at cone 6, it features a clean, rustic look that highlights the natural texture of the clay.
This project explored the relationship between form and function, emphasizing ergonomic design, smooth pouring action, and visual simplicity. The final piece serves as a functional object and a decorative work of art, reflecting thoughtful craftsmanship and material understanding.
Functional Design & Craftsmanship:
The pitcher was carefully wheel-thrown and hand-finished to ensure a balanced form, comfortable grip, and smooth pouring action. Its ergonomic handle and wide base make it ideal for everyday use, combining utility with artistic precision.
Natural Aesthetic with Durable Finish:
Made from mid-fire stoneware and glazed with a semi-matte, food-safe finish, the pitcher was fired at cone 6 for strength and vitrification. The minimalist glaze enhances the natural texture of the clay, giving the piece a timeless, rustic character.
